GSAPS Summer Announcements

Dear GSAPS Community,

Buckle in, we have some juicy news!

(1) Thank you to all who shared their thoughts and experiences with us on last night’s GSAPS for Black Lives call. We were thrilled to see that there was so much interest in engaging in this vital conversation. Folks raised a number of important questions and concerns related to the implications of the George Floyd solidarity protests for our work as proponents of psychedelic research and access. We’ve begun crowdsourcing these on this Google doc, with the intention of gauging interest in topics for future conversation.

The group expressed interest in sharing resources to foster mutual learning (we’ve started a doc here in case it’s helpful, feel free to add!), as well as continued monthly online gatherings which incorporate racial affinity process groups. Please keep an eye out for more shared resources, news about next month’s gathering, and an update about a potential white affinity group forming. And if you’re interested in helping to facilitate the monthly community gatherings, please reach out to Reba Hsu [email protected].

(2) As the summer approaches, we are reminded of the incredible process group we had last summer. A small group of us met weekly throughout the summer to discuss and connect around the topics of psychedelics, science, and healing. It was a rich and intimate experience for all of us. Until we can do this again in person, we still want members of our community to continue to build deep and authentic relationships during shelter in place. We think these closed groups that meet regularly are the best way to do that! Thus, GSAPS co-founders Madrone Love and Rebecca Rothberg, joined by GSAPS members Angela Allen and Sam Hinds, will be co-facilitating two virtual, closed, 8-week process groups running concurrently July – August.  Both groups are capped at 10 people total (including facilitators).

The first
will be focused on our local community, building connections between those of us based in the SF Bay Area. Rebecca and Sam will be co-facilitating this group Thursdays 6:30pm – 8pm from July 9 – August 27.  There may be flexibility on the dates/times of the group based on the needs and schedules of participants, so please don’t let that deter you from expressing interest.

The second
group will be, aligned with this year’s Burning Man theme and the strange times we are living in, a “multiverse” version – extending the invitation to those around the globe on the MAPS grad student listserve. Madrone and Angela will be co-facilitating this group also on Thursdays July 9 – August 27. Time TBD.

If you are interested in participating, please email us with (1) your name/ preferred pronouns, (2) school program, year, and area of study (or job if you are not currently a student) (3) professional interests regarding psychedelic research and/or psychotherapy, (4) experience in the field (if any), (5) why you want to join the group, and (6) a short blurb about yourself to help us get to know you a little bit better. LGBTQIA+, POC and Multiracial folks are whole-heartedly encouraged to apply (nudge, nudge).

(3) And last but definitely not least, we are extremely proud to announce the launch of our beautiful new website created and designed by our very own James Curley. Thanks so much, James!

James has been an integral part of this GSAPS endeavor, working tirelessly behind the scenes on the website for months, and we are so appreciative of all of his work. In the coming year, along with more interactive virtual programming, we hope to make this a more dynamic platform with user profiles and community-led discussion forums as well as a robust community calendar covering interesting relevant local events as well as our own.

Looking forward to continuing to connect!

With Love and Gratitude,
The GSAPS Leadership Crew
